Looking for the best ball bearings for skating?

Ball bearings, rolling elements or bearings, they all mean the same thing. Those little circles in your skateboard wheels, they make sure your wheels turn and put your skateboard in motion. So it's not unimportant!

Of course you can orderskateboard bearings online at Stoked Boardshop, the shop for boarders, by boarders. You'll find our entire product range here.

We have a whole arsenal of bearings, from Powell Mini-logo to Independent Black Precision bearings and the good old Bones Reds. So many that you can't see the wood for the trees. Fortunately, the boarders of Stoked are here to help you out.
But which bearings are best for your style of skating and what should you pay attention to when buying your little speed devils?

Quality of the ball bearings

First of all, you should know that the quality of the ball bearings is expressed in an ABEC code. There are 5 types of ABEC: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9. The higher the number on your bearings, the higher the precision with which the bearings are made. For the longboarders among us, there are of course also bearings with ABEC 11, so you can blast downhills at cruising speed.
A high ABEC number does not mean that these bearings automatically turn better or that they are smoother. The ABEC coding is only about the amount of play the bearing is allowed to have.
More important than the ABEC coding for skateboarding is the material your bearings are made of.

Steel, titanium or ceramic?

Most bearings are made of steel balls, these are basic bearings, most of them are made of solid quality, are not too expensive and give you guaranteed pleasure for your money. If you want some more certainty about the shelf life of your roller bearings, you can opt for the titanium bearings, these are a lot lighter than steel bearings and are also a lot firmer. If you are going for the serious "créme de la créme" of bearings, choose ceramic bearings. These are more shock resistant, show less signs of wear and tear and require less lubrication than other ball bearings.

A small catch is of course the price tag of these ceramic bearings, because they are obviously much more expensive than the "basic" bearings.

I hope this has been of some use to you ;)

Peace out & keep shredding!
